Thank you for stopping by at my little fused glass website!
My name is Chris, and I am passionate about fused glass - especially the making of it! I have always loved crafts and many years ago started exploring the art of wet felting and copper foiling. But in 2020 (just as the pandemic struck, and everything came to a stand still!), I found fused glass, and had to wait until things eased before I could fully explore the art and try out the skills to create beautiful twinkly items. Needless to say, I became smitten - hook, line and sinker, and here we are several years later, when I find myself in possession of a kiln, many sheets of glass and glass inclusions, creating as though it’s going out of fashion.
Coloured glass has the attraction to make you want to look through it, to truly see the colours, and to wonder at how those colours change according to the light behind. Fused glass makes you want to touch it and stroke it. It has the ability to throw those colours onto a window sill, to sparkle in the sun and to brighten a dull day.
Fusing glass requires the kiln to reach high temperatures to ‘stick’ layers of sheet glass (or inclusions) together, and depending on the temperatures reached, fused glass can reappear at the end of the firing time changed in different ways. It requires cutting skills to take those sheets of glass and cut them to shape, it takes skill to grind the shapes on a glass grinder to create the finished shape, and it takes creativity to produce an end product that can be fired and passed on for someone else to enjoy.
